Tax Data for Sale?

8 July, 2014 by Ian

HMRC_logoShould the taxman be allowed to sell personal data? Put as bluntly as that it is surely a no-brainer of a question: of course they shouldn’t. But HMRC claims it would always ensure that any data is rendered anonymous first. I have discuissed this matter with Ministers and have received many representations from constituents. Today at Westminster there is a meeting at which MPs will be able to discuss the whole question. I fully intend to be there. I would also appreciate your views on the subject. HMRC has published the findings of its own consultations and there has been extensive press coverage of the story, with a great deal more detail in the specialist press. I am Chairman of the All-Party Taxation Group and this matter is very much on my radar. Please get in touch if you think I can help.
